BioWest was founded in 1987 in the heart of the Loire Valley. Since then we have evolved into one of the finest and leading European producers of sera, media and biochemicals for cell culture.

For more than 10 years BioWest was the producer of top quality sera for Boehringer Mannheim

(now Roche Diagnostics).

When Roche decided to end their distribution of cell culture sera in 1999, they handed this business over to BioWest.

This step marked the beginning of a new era – since then we have been promoting our own brand, “BioWest”, directly to end users and through partnerships with specialist distribution companies all over the world.

Together with the National Veterinary Service for the French Ministry of Agriculture, we are using now the safest test procedure for BSE in FBS:
Current tests for BSE do not prove the existence of prions in blood or fetuses. The highest concentration of prions is found in the brain.
We therefore put the blood under quarantine after collection and test the brain of each mother animal for the absence of prions. Only if this is proved do we start manufacturing the serum.
